Designed around your goals
Wherever You Are in Your Teaching Journey
You do not need to arrive with the same experience, ambitions or teaching style as everyone else. The small group format allows Emma to help you develop the skills that matter most to you.
I am new to teaching
Build the confidence to begin
You love hooping and would like to teach, but you may be wondering whether you are experienced enough or where to start.
- Learn how to explain and demonstrate clearly
- Practise teaching before running your own classes
- Gain experience with beginners and groups
- Receive support while you find your teaching style
You will finish with real teaching experience and a clear next step towards running your own classes.
I already teach
Develop the teacher you already are
You may already teach regular classes, online sessions or event workshops and want fresh ideas, detailed feedback and time to refine your approach.
- Strengthen your progressions and class structure
- Improve troubleshooting and multi-level teaching
- Experiment with new or more ambitious workshop ideas
- Receive personalised feedback on your teaching
You will leave with practical ideas you can apply immediately to your existing classes and future workshops.
Why this certification works
Confidence Comes From Experience
You do not become a confident teacher by watching someone else teach. You become confident by practising, teaching real people, receiving useful feedback and having the chance to try again.
Learn
Emma introduces practical teaching methods, demonstrates how they work and explains why they help students learn.
Practise
You explore the ideas for yourself, prepare teaching material and practise in a small, supportive group.
Teach
You teach beginners, fellow participants and real class attendees in carefully supported teaching situations.
Receive Feedback
Emma and the group help you identify what worked, what could be clearer and what to try next.
Improve
You take what you have learned away, practise between sessions and return ready for the next challenge.
The difference is repetition
You teach more than once
Throughout the certification, you experience the difference between teaching something for the first time and teaching it again after feedback. That is often the moment confidence begins to replace self-doubt.
By the time you lead your final assessed workshop, you will already have practised one-to-one teaching, beginner teaching, multi-level teaching and teaching a group.
You do not graduate with only a certificate.
You graduate with real teaching experience.Your certification journey

Inside the certification
See What the Experience Is Really Like
This is not a course where you simply watch and take notes. Across the programme, you learn new teaching methods, put them into practice, teach real students, receive feedback and build confidence through experience.
Real progress across the programme
Watch Confidence Grow Through Practice
This video shows one participant at different points during the certification, including breaking down tricks, practice troubleshooting, teaching a beginner class and a larger group.
It gives a real glimpse of the range of teaching experiences included in the programme and how participants are supported as they build towards their final assessment.
Small group support
Learn Alongside Other Hoop Teachers
The small group format gives everyone time to contribute, ask questions and receive useful feedback. Participants bring different interests, experiences and teaching goals, which makes learning from one another a valuable part of the course.
Real teaching experience
Teach a Real Beginner With Support
Participants are paired with a beginner and teach them live through Zoom. Emma is present with the beginner throughout the lesson, helping the session run smoothly and supporting both teacher and student when needed.
Your outcome
When You Finish, You’ll Be Able To…

Learn From Someone Who Has Taught at Every Level
Whatever kind of hoop teacher you want to become, Emma has experience of the teaching environments you are working towards.
Emma has been teaching hooping since 2010, from local beginner classes and regular online sessions to workshops, retreats, festivals, international conventions and teaching tours.
She has also organised online events, run conventions and trained hoop teachers, giving her a broad understanding of what works with different students, class formats and teaching goals.
With a background in genetics and biomedical science, and a PhD in immunology, Emma brings a uniquely analytical approach to hoop teaching. She loves breaking down movement, solving teaching challenges and finding clear, practical ways to help students succeed.
Whether you want to teach your first beginner class, improve the classes you already run or develop a workshop for an international convention, Emma will help you build the skills and confidence to move forward.

What will I be able to do by the end?
By the end of the programme, you will have experience teaching one-to-one, teaching beginners, working with mixed ability students and leading a group.
You will also have planned and delivered your own complete workshop, received personalised feedback, and developed practical skills in class structure, progressions, troubleshooting, communication and adapting your teaching to different learners.
The aim is for you to finish feeling ready to begin teaching or excited to use new ideas in the classes you already run.
What can I teach for my final assessment class?
You can choose something that genuinely interests you and suits your teaching goals.
Your final class could be a complete beginner class, an intermediate or advanced workshop, choreography, hoop dance, mini hoops, doubles, fitness, tricks, movement exploration, creative play or something completely different.
You do not need to decide at the beginning of the certification. During your one-to-one planning call, Emma will help you develop your idea, structure the class and make sure it is realistic for the time available.
Do I need teaching experience before I join?
No. The certification is suitable for people preparing to teach for the first time as well as experienced teachers who want to refine their skills.
The teaching challenges build gradually, so you are not expected to arrive already knowing how to lead a class.
Do I need to be an advanced hooper?
You do not need to know every trick or have a particular style of hooping.
What matters most is that you have a solid personal hoop practice, are willing to learn, and are interested in helping other people progress.
Your final assessment is based on your teaching, not on performing the most difficult material.
Will I teach real people during the course?
Yes. Real teaching experience is a central part of the certification.
You will teach a beginner in a supported one-to-one Zoom lesson, practise with a larger multi-level class organised by Emma, and lead your own final workshop for a real audience.
The teaching situations become more challenging gradually, so you can build your confidence step by step.
Who attends my final assessment class?
Because the final class takes place online, you can invite an audience that is useful for the kind of teaching you want to practise.
Emma can also help share the class with the wider hoop community so that you have a suitable group of students to teach.
Your assessment time can be arranged separately from the main Sunday sessions, making it easier to choose a time that works for you and your audience.
Will this help me teach in person as well as online?
Yes. The main teaching skills covered in ATT apply to both online and in-person classes.
These include clear demonstrations, verbal explanations, progressions, troubleshooting, multi-level teaching, class planning and managing a group.
You will also gain specific experience of teaching online, which can help you expand your audience, reduce overheads and create recorded classes or workshops.
Do I need specialist equipment or a professional studio?
No. You need a reliable internet connection, a device that can run Zoom, enough room to demonstrate safely and a way to position your camera so students can see you clearly.
You do not need a professional studio or expensive equipment. Many online hoop teachers work successfully from living rooms, gardens and other simple home setups.
The How to Make Money Teaching Online course will help you understand the practical and technical side of online teaching.
Do I need to complete the whole video course before the live sessions begin?
You do not need to complete every lesson before the first live session, but you should begin the Foundations Video Course as soon as you enrol.
The more preparation you complete beforehand, the more you will gain from the live teaching exercises, discussions and feedback.
You will receive immediate access, giving you several months to begin working through the material before the live certification starts.
What happens if I cannot attend one of the live sessions?
The live sessions are an important part of the certification because they include practical exercises, teaching experience and feedback.
Session recordings will be added to the certification course area, but watching a recording does not always replace the value of participating live.
Please contact Emma before enrolling if you already know that you will miss a session, so you can discuss whether the course will still work for you.
What if the advertised session time is impossible in my time zone?
Please contact Emma before deciding that the certification is not possible for you.
If there is enough interest from participants in Australia, New Zealand, western North America or other affected time zones, a second live group may be offered at a more suitable time.
A second group is not guaranteed and will depend on sufficient demand.
